The lovable host of ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ may be the academy’s pick for the 2013 Academy Awards, but not everyone’s happy with the choice!

Well guys, looks like it’s already that time of year — time to start anticipating the return of our dear old friend, Oscar. He’s changed a lot over the years, but always Oscar sinks or swims by the quality of his host. The recent trend has been toward movie stars taking on the roll, with varying degrees of success, but last year’s return of the comedian, featuring host-with-the-second-most Billy Crystal, was deemed too old-fashioned and received mixed reviews. So who to choose to save the show from flagging ratings and bring it into the 20-teens? According to outgoing Academy president Tom Sherak, comedy is the answer, and comedy’s name is Jimmy Fallon.

The ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum is a promising choice, considering the rip-roaring success of his hosting gig at the 2010 Emmys. Unfortunately for Jimmy, Sherak was unable to complete negotiations before his tenure was up, and now that there’s a new president in town, all talks have apparently ceased. The biggest obstacle seems to be ABC Network. ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ is in direct competition with ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, making the network reluctant to hand over an audience of 40 million+ to their rival. A source inside Disney, which owns ABC, told Deadline, quote “When the idea came up of Fallon, we made it clear that we were not happy about that.” While ABC doesn’t have veto power over the decision, the two organizations are longtime partners and the new Academy president may be unwilling to rock the boat.

By the way, the guy attached to Jimmy Fallon to produce the Oscar show? That would be Lorne Michaels, original co-creator and executive producer of SNL. So yeah, maybe ABC could make an exception? Leave a comment below to let us know if you guys think Jimmy should host, or if not, who would be a better choice. I’m Joslyn Davis, thanks for tuning into ClevverMovies!

2012 Oscar Highlights: The Best Moments!

June 25th, 2012

“The Artist” was the big winner at the 84th annual Academy Awards, taking home Oscars for best picture, best director and its star Jean Dujardin…

In the best actress race, considered by many to be the biggest tossup of the night, Meryl Streep won over Viola Davis for her portrayal of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.”

“When they called my mind I had this feeling that I could hear half of America going ‘Oh, no. Why her, again?’ But, whatever,” said Streep after winning her third Oscar, though she’s been nominated 17 times — the most of any actor.

In an emotional speech, Streep thanked her husband for “everything I value most in my life” and her makeup artist Roy Helland, who has been with her since the start of her career and won his first Oscar Sunday night for “The Iron Lady.”

Bringing tears to the eyes of many in the audience, Streep said she values most the friendship of the people sitting before her. “I look out here and I see my life before my eyes — my old friends and my new friends.”

Dujardin also thanked the new friends he’s made in America since “The Artist.”

“I love your country,” Dujardin said, accepting his trophy and doing a little soft shoe as he exited the stage.
