The nominations for the 2009 Oscars ceremony have been revealed. British actress Kate Winslet and Slumdog Millionaire, the rags-to-riches tale set in Mumbai and directed by Danny Boyle, have both received nominations. This is the announcement in full.

Streep should have won over Winslet my ass. Loved Streep, but Winslet was subtle and powerful in The Reader, nothing like her whining work in Revolutionaery Road. She deserved her Oscar.

Milk was only nominated because it has a “political” or “controversial” message, which is often what people look for at the Oscars. The movie itself in my opinion was not worth the time. I don’t hate gays, but I dont exactly think it should have so much publicity just because it’s portrayed in a film
