What can I keep with my 2 baby tiger oscars?

I have a 120 gallon tank that has a 6" Pleco and 2 Baby oscars, around 1 and a half inches each. I would like to add one or two things while they are small so that they can grow together. What would be suitable? Thanks in advance.

Firstly active fish, these include Rosy Barbs, Tiger Barbs and not much else, as not much will withstand the fury of an oscar, as a matter of fact, i wouldnt even recommend the Barbs, they cant hold their own and will get destroyed. A better choice is cichlids, Jack Dempseys, Green Terrors, Severum, Firemouth, Convicts, BUT whatever you do, do not add Red Devils, Midas or Jaguars, they are far too aggressive and will belt the living daylights out of your poor Oscars. The best time to add is at the juvenile stage, they get along better that way. I love oscars, its just a shame they are so much work.

can i keep a fresh water stingray with my oscars in a 100gal?

also what do stingrays eat. my oscars are yong so if that helps 3 inches long.

Stingrays eat live food such as shrimp or baby fish three inches might be to small right know, stingrays are really not meant to be put in a tank with other fish they need a wide open place to swim and a sandy substrate for them to burrow in. I see there is a great deal of info on this website check it out and see if this helps

Can anyone tell me how long I should wait after my oscars have bred to remove the eggs?

My oscars are laying eggs for the first time and I have read that you can remove them from the tank into a tank of their own. The reason I want to move them is it appears one of the oscars is eating some of the eggs. Any answer helpful!

You can remove them immediately after spawning, as long as you have another tank prepared. You also need to be ready for some work. You need to have constant aeration/bubbling near the eggs. You need a baster or syringe to remove infertile and fungused eggs.
A mentioned, oscars, and most cichlids, are excellent parents, and will eat infertile and fungused eggs. One parent will always be fanning the eggs, while the other is guarding them. Upon hatching, they move the fry to a prepared pit in the gravel, and move them to others often.
And yes, they may eat all the eggs if they are frightened, feel the eggs are threatened, or are new spawners. You may want to cover the front and sides of the tank to increase the chances of egg-eating.
There are more reasons to leave them with the parents than remove them.

What Kind of Fish Make Good Tankmates for Oscars?

I know it can’t be anything to small cause the Oscars will eat it but I’m not sure what else would be OK?
I have 2 oscars in a 55 gallon tank.

You had best leave it as is. A 55 gallon is pretty tight for even just two Oscars (and if it seems like there’s plenty of room right now, it’s because they must be young still – two adults in that tank will remind you of the crammed tanks at the fish market – the ones sold for food). Even a 75 gallon doesn’t cut it for tankmates, except perhaps a single pleco, it’s the same as a 55 gallon but with more depth, making more room for the Oscars, but not really for other fish.

First make sure you have two Oscars that will be compatible for the long term. If yours are a pair, you’re all set. But if you just got two random Oscars the chances are in favour of them starting to fight over the tank at some point as they mature, and then you will need to remove one of them. If they are a pair, it’s tricky mix other fish because they’ll become very aggressive when mating and other fish will have a tough time handling it – not unless it’s a huge tank.

As far as tankmates for Oscars go, assuming you had the space, it’s best to go with tough, yet not territorial fish that they can’t mistake for food. One of the most poplular, yet worst recommendations is other cichlids. This is because the more territorial fish you stuff into a tank, the less room you give each fish to actually live, and the more likely you create higher stress, fights, and inhibited natural behaviour. Don’t force the fish into a situation where they must ‘defend themselves’ or exist always looking over their shoulders, so to speak.

The Tinoil barbs is a reasonable suggestion, but because they are schooling fish (should have at least 3, especially with Oscars in the tank) and grow to a foot long, you really should have a tank of at least 150 gallons to mix these two to provide proper room to keep out of each others way and move around. It’s not just the tinfoils that would have a hard time, but the Oscars will also get stressed from having these big active fish in their face all day long. (I know from experience).

Another alternative is Silver dollars, since they get too big for an Oscar to eat, yet stay small enough to be kept as a proper group in a reasonable sized tank, but again it’s best to have at least 100 gallons to work with, and even then it’s difficult with a mated pair of O’s.

Other alternatives in a big enough tank that they can grow into and move around in, are large catfish, bala sharks, clown loaches, or plecos.
