How can I get tickets to fashion week?

April 19th, 2013

I don’t want to go to the one in February, that’s too soon (even though it would be nice). I want to go to the September 11-18 Fashion Week in NYC. Can someone please help me?

Also, could anyone give me a price range?

You cannot get tickets to fashion week. The event is exclusive and set up by designer*, INVITE only not open to the public. Set up by designer means an invite by the designer is usually needed for entry. The people who are invited is generally limited to celebrities, fashion insiders/assistants, press/media for magazines etc and designers themselves! However, you can probably find out more information at the website they list the venues, locations, times and dates of the designers being showcased. You have a better chance of perhaps being able to stand under the tent for a lesser known up and coming designer as opposed to well known designers like Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta. It is also good to know someone who knows someone etc and so on. My bf has a connection from an internship he did with a major fashion label. He would be working as an assistant though. Ask around. Check out this website it will give you more information: http://www.mbfashionweek.com/newyork/fall2009/schedule/pre_index.html Hope this helps.

Also, if you are not against it try the shows at the Waldorf Astoria. It is still high fashion couture gowns during Fashion Week just not in the official Fashion week line up in Bryant Park. The tickets can be bought online and cost anywhere from $40 to stand* of course per show to $1400 for VIP seating all the days the show is running. Here is the site: http://www.usafashionshows.com/showschedules.htm

Best wishes. you could try to win tickets to the event just search online I found these sites: http://www.clubplanet.com/Articles/1500/Win-Tickets-to-Couture-Fashion-Week-in-NYC

or pay the fees but this only shows the one coming up now its $850 http://www.newyorkology.com/archives/2008/01/w_hotel_fashion.php

What are the key fashion trends for Spring 2011?

April 14th, 2013

Posted by admin in fashion oscars | 3 Comments »

I understand 70’s inspired fashion will be big but what are the other key trends?

Minimalistic is the trend that will be popping up everywhere for the spring. Structured suits and simple garments are going to be key. Color trend: whites, creams, ivories, tans, black, and navy. Other styles that will be showing up are bohemian (pretty consistent), feminine florals, and chunky pieces for the cooler spring months (chunky sweaters, cardigans). Many of the resort and spring collections for 2011 have been sleek ponytails (Chanel, Celine)and touseled, center parted hair that flips slightly to frame the face (Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti). Makeup will be pretty neutral, maybe with some winged eyeliner to make the look more dramatic. But remember, if you are totally into bright colors, don’t let this season’s trends bring you down! In fact, the neutral color palette gives you more room to be crazy with your shoes and accessories, and you won’t have to fight your outfit to incorporate statement pieces. Hope I helped!

What do you think of the names Oscar Benjamin and Ophelia Sophie?

My husband and I are thinking of naming our twins Oscar and Ophelia.
We already have a two year old daughter called Olwen Charlotte. She was named Olwen after my husband’s mum.
We haven’t planned on giving them names that start with the same letters, it just happened to be that we both preferred Oscar and Ophelia above any other names.

• Oscar Benjamin- 10/10- I just LOVE this combination, it’s just perfect! Oscar is a brilliant name- and one of my favourites {It’s on my top 20} It’s a charming, old fashioned name that isn’t dated at all and will age really well- cute enough for a 2 year old, but sophisticated and smart enough for a 40 year old. I rarely hear it anymore, and it is surprisingly underused {at least where I live} too- which is always a bonus- at least he wont meet 5 other Oscar’s his age. Benjamin too is just great, it also possesses all of these qualities and is very masculine and strong to. Both names are handsome and sounds truly great together. I wouldn’t change anything.

• Ophelia Sophie- 7/10- Individually I’d give each name a 10/10, but they sound to similar and don’t flow very well because they both have a strong ‘fee’ sound. I’ve recently added Ophelia to my favourites list and I have Briony Ophelia on my list. It’s a beautiful, shakespearean name, very feminine and soft sounding too. It’s also really classy and has many nickname possibilities too. Sophie is another gorgeous name, and although I prefer Sophia.. Sophie has been growing on me a lot more. It’s a nice classy name, with a nice sound to it- but I do worry It’s becoming to popular.

Suggestions:

-Ophelia Briony
-Ophelia Hazel
-Ophelia Violet
-Ophelia Scarlett
-Ophelia Rosalind

-Emilia Sophie
-Imogen Sophie
-Olivia Sophie
-Ada Sophie

Know some names of high end fashion brands?

April 10th, 2013

I need to know a fashion brand that is on the same level as the brand "Burberry." I’m trying to do a project but have no idea about high fashion. Help!

Nanette Lepore, Missoni, Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler, Yves Saint Laurent, Armani Collezioni, Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Chloe, Christian Louboutin, Versace, David Yurman, D&G, Helmut Lang, Vera Wang, Dior, Theory, Emilio Pucci, Juicy Couture, Fendi, Gucci, Herve Leger, Jimmy Choo, Marc by Marc Jacobs/Marc Jacobs, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, St. John, Oscar de la Renta, Tory Burch, Valentino, Vince, Diane von Furstenberg, Chanel.

Those were the ones I could think of off the top of my head. I’m tired, so it’s not a long list, but I hope it helps!

To the first answer: Since when is a brand that carries $50 tee shirts (pretty inexpensive) and other relatively affordable clothes nicer than a brand that carries trenches that cost well over $1,000?

Is there a college that offers both Fashion and Costume design?

November 26th, 2012

I want to duel major in both Costume (production) Design and Fashion design. But almost no matter what school I look into they only have one or the other and it makes it impossible to find a school where both programs are good.

I have looked into Parsons, SCAD, and FIT so far…

Any suggestions?

SCAD actually would be the best school for you. Even though it is not explicitly stated, SCAD does have a costume design program. You would have to major in Production Design and you can have a concentration in Costume Design with that major. Because SCAD has such an extensive Performing Arts Program, as well as an excellent Film and Television major, Production Design majors are in great demand, so you will gain great experience with both stage and film production environments. SCAD students produce the stage shows, so you would be actively working in the costume shop to design and make the costumes.

SCAD also has one of the best Fashion programs in the country and hosts the SCAD Fashion Show at the end of each year with some recent guests being Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs, Isabel and Ruben Toledo, etc. SCAD also has a mentorship program that you may have the opportunity to be selected for when you are a senior and some recent mentors include Zac Posen, Catherine Malandrino, Lars Nilsson, etc.

SCAD also offers majors and minors in Accessory Design and Fashion Marketing and Management if those areas interest you as well.
